December, 23, 2011 - A HUGE THANK YOU for all who participated in the CJ Foundation for Children in Need Toy Drive!!!
We were able to donate toys to our 3 hospitals;
At Joe DiMaggio’s in Hollywood - 27 patients + siblings (who had to tag along on the appointment because Broward Schools were out) were covered. Cassandra, Mary, Stacey and Mack and I were allowed to hang and play with the kids as they came in for their treatments on Monday. In one special case – Evette was feeling very poorly and was being admitted but brightened up and joined us in the play room once she got to meet and hold Mack…. At St. Mary’s in West Palm Beach– we took up about 30 toys to the children in the oncology/hematology ward. Cassandra and I met April and Barbara to be allowed to visit the children…(Okay, that was rather tough – Cassandra and I both had to really fight tears on that trip) – It was so sweet to see the faces light up when the kids saw us with a toy for them.
At Chris Evert’s in Ft. Lauderdale – Suzanne and I took down gifts for about 40-50 children. We were met in the lobby by Heather who coordinated the donations for the children. The gifts will be passed out this weekend there. (And I took down another box of toys this morning that had been donated specifically for some of the older kids at Chris Evert’s)
Thank you so much for your donations, help, and support! Believe me – the toys and gifts do not get wasted. Any extras that may appear will be kept for the children to help cheer them up when they have a particularly tough day as well.
